Vinton Gray Cerf was born in New Haven, Connecticut on June 23, 1943. He began his interest in computer science at a young age. In 1965, he graduated from Stanford University with a degree in math. He worked at IBM for a short amount of time before returning to university to get a master's degree in computer science, which he eventually achieved in 1972. Afterwards, he worked on the ARPANET, the first form of computer network that would be based on sending packets. It could also do other things such as detecting Soviet nuclear testing. In 1973, he worked with Bob Kahn to create a network similar to the ARPANET called the Internet. In 1976, the two produced the protocols of TCP/IP. In 1982, he left to work at another computer science company, MCI, where he created MCI Mail, the first email service on the Internet. He continues to work with the internet and has been the Vice President of Google since 2005. |

The reason that I chose this superhero as my third superhero to research was because of what I learned about him from my peers' websites. The first website I saw that made me want to choose this superhero was Aadarsh's website. I read it and thought that Vint Cerf was interesting because he created the Internet, which has helped to shape our modern world. Justin's website helped further my interest as he also explained Vint Cerf well. |
